Work in Progress: Me&Todd Dude in Bowie Evolution

January 23, 2016

Here’s a black and white draft of my tribute to the late David Bowie.

I’ve always been inspired by his famous shape shifting characters and alter egos.

Although I’ve appreciated his music, mostly it’s been within the realm of greatest hits. On one hand I feel a guilt of bandwagoning, but on the other hand I don’t envy the pain of people who know more Bowie than I do, what a slightly older generation who witnessed his transformation in real time and what that did to society, man, what they must be feeling.

The scope of this loss is huge.

In this drawing I have my zig zag mustache character, Me&Todd Dude, portraying Bowie in many of his manifestations. It ends with him as the Blackstar button-eyed sick Bowie from the Lazarus video and from there we see the next square has Bowie shedded his earthly coil and fully transcended into his true form, the space alien who fell to Earth and gifted us good music.

I’ll be listening to deeper cuts and coloring this for a bit. Stay tuned!

Me&Video: Film Friday – Snowland, NY (2007)

February 21, 2014

20140204-012732.jpg

Here is one of the first short films that I ever made and edited by myself.

“Snowland, NY” (2007)

I posted this on YouTube seven years ago yesterday.

This is arguably my first experimental film/music video, “place portrait.”

The music is “Separate the People,” by The Mates of State.

Movie Review: Body Double (1984)

February 14, 2014

20140206-014835.jpg

This film (dir. Brian De Palma) has peeping tom stuff, claustrophobic stuff, sexy Melanie Griffith, etc.

Not my all-time favorite De Palma, but pretty sweet.

Movie Review: East of Eden (1955)

February 7, 2014

20140206-010732.jpg

I was inspired to watch this film (dir. Elia Kazan) for the first time after watching Scorsese’s “A Letter to Elia.”

It’s good. James Dean, yes.

Movie Review: On the Waterfront (1954)

February 7, 2014

20140206-012716.jpg

I was inspired to watch this film (dir. Elia Kazan) for the first time after watching Scorsese’s “A Letter to Elia.”

It’s really good, simple story, complex emotions, Brando is captivating.

Me&Video: Film Friday – ToddShow Intro (Teaser)

February 7, 2014

20140204-022636.jpg

Here is the long intro to the show I’ve been developing for sometime called ToddShow.

Since this was released online in 2010, it is now considered a teaser and preview, as well as de facto 1st sequence of multiple and forthcoming intros which will be soon updated to include material and footage from stuff that has been created and shot since then.

“Where IS ToddShow?” you ask. It exists in short films and video experiments found on my YouTube page HERE.

I am developing a 45-minute variety show with a narrative arc for cable access. I am also developing a ToddShow web series and a live theatrical experience called ToddShow Live.

All of this is taking time, living a certain amount of life, collecting data from experiences in media marination as well as successes but mostly failures in work, love, friends, family, places, and art.

More soon.

Movie Review: Naked in New York (1993)

December 14, 2013

20131214-064007.jpg

I thoroughly enjoyed this Martin Scorsese-produced film from the EARLY nineties (dir. Daniel Algrant).

We see risk-taking here, innovative story telling, breaking the fourth wall, magical realism, a young Mary-Louise Parker, …

20131214-064952.jpg

It’s a sweet coming of age film, Eric Stoltz in one of the better, almost Stoltzier, roles.

Movie Review: Search and Destroy (1995)

December 14, 2013

20131214-061704.jpg

I watched this (dir. David Salle) while on a kick of seeking out Martin Scorsese-produced films.

It is so early nineties, very psychedelic. Can’t remember what happens in it really, but Christopher Walken is in it.

20131214-062435.jpg

It’s one of those Griffin Dunne vehicles. I liked After Hours so much and he has a mustache in this one.

20131214-062739.jpg

I do recommend it.

Movie Review: Passion (2012)

December 14, 2013

20131214-055827.jpg

A new Brian De Palma film. Good psychological thrills. Rachel McAdams is a good evil creep. Harkens back to classic BDP maybe. Still not as good as his older films but whatever.
