Movie Review: Body Double (1984)

This film (dir. Brian De Palma) has peeping tom stuff, claustrophobic stuff, sexy Melanie Griffith, etc.

Not my all-time favorite De Palma, but pretty sweet.

It’s good. James Dean, yes.

I was inspired to watch this film (dir. Elia Kazan) for the first time after watching Scorsese’s “A Letter to Elia.”

It’s really good, simple story, complex emotions, Brando is captivating.

Movie Review: Naked in New York (1993)

I thoroughly enjoyed this Martin Scorsese-produced film from the EARLY nineties (dir. Daniel Algrant).

We see risk-taking here, innovative story telling, breaking the fourth wall, magical realism, a young Mary-Louise Parker, …

It’s a sweet coming of age film, Eric Stoltz in one of the better, almost Stoltzier, roles.

Movie Review: Search and Destroy (1995)

I watched this (dir. David Salle) while on a kick of seeking out Martin Scorsese-produced films.

It is so early nineties, very psychedelic. Can’t remember what happens in it really, but Christopher Walken is in it.

It’s one of those Griffin Dunne vehicles. I liked After Hours so much and he has a mustache in this one.

I do recommend it.

Movie Review: Passion (2012)

A new Brian De Palma film. Good psychological thrills. Rachel McAdams is a good evil creep. Harkens back to classic BDP maybe. Still not as good as his older films but whatever.

Movie Review: A Letter to Elia (2010)

This PBS American Masters documentary (dir. Kent Jones and Martin Scorsese) is an inspiring look at Elia Kazan’s life and career, and stuff he went through like getting blacklisted as a communist and naming names and all that.

Narrated by Martin Scorsese.

After this I was inspired to watch the great Kazan films, East of Eden and On the Waterfront.

Movie Review: Parkland (2013)

Tom Hanks’s new Playtone Movie (dir. Peter Landesman). This was pretty good. Style, tone, acting. Lil’ Billy Bob, lil’ Marcia Gay. Giamatt’ plays a tortured Zapruder.

Lotta young actors in this. I’m pretty sure they cast out of and shot around Austin. I believe I saw Austin actor and improviser Arthur Simone in the operating room there.

I used to work with a dude who was like the brother-in-law of Bryan Batt, character and broadway actor, who plays a small role in the film. Apparently, he originated lots of roles on Broadway, including Lumiere in Beauty and the Beast, according to my former co-worker. I mostly recognize him from the character on Mad Men who was fired for being gay in the plot of like Season 2.

Anyways. Kennedy was a baller. Sucks Magneto had to blow those brains out.
